80 years ago today, Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr., was born. I wonder if either his parents or he knew as he was growing up, that one day he would step on a sound stage and take part in one of the most elaborate hoaxes in human history: walking on the moon! /snark
In all seriousness, regardless of what your views are regarding Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s contributions to science, technology and space exploration, he allowed future generations of children to grow up dreaming of possibilities. He was part of a crew that, despite ridicule and criticism and a huge risk to personal safety, went where no one had gone before: the surface of the moon.
So tonight, while you are outside looking up at the satellite we call the Moon, why not wish Buzz a very happy octogenarian birthday. Happy Birthday Buzz! May the legacy you have helped create continue to inspire children to wonder and dream about possibilities for many generations to come.
