For decades nothing has spawned more nerdlings to do battle with each other than the epic debate of which franchise has more merit: Star Trek or Star Wars. These battles have become somewhat iconic in geek culture. They’ve even been depicted in movies such as Fanboys. Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a website dedicated to this battle? A place where people from both sides could debate the issues *cough* leaving Star Trek victorious *cough* (it is of no secret where my loyalties lie)? Well there is. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you this week’s Geek of the Week: Star Wars vs Star Trek (@WarsVsTrek).
What is the purpose of this site?

So I suppose I should start this blog off with an intro. Here goes nothing…
Long, long, ago… okay, maybe it wasn’t that long ago.. or that far away, for that matter (so it begins!). Either way, there has always seemed to a dichotomy between the two universes of Star Wars and Star Trek that emerged from the depths of b-line sci-fi. It was because of this that we started noticing various… let’s call them “discussions” comparing and contrasting the two. After so many of these “discussions” occuring over short periods of time, we soon realized the issue was much, much bigger than us and that we had to bring it somewhere else.
The idea behind this blog is to bring forth this discussion to the online community for many reasons. 1) We think there are many differant issues and arguments that need to be addressed, 2) we have a really good time doing it, and 3) we need to figure out once and for all which side wins! So please, join Sublatum, Riker (that’s really his name and what we call him in real life.. no joke! Good luck with that, Rike), and myself on this journey of discovery, debate, and hopefully some laughter. We welcome all comments, whether praise or criticism, and we hope you enjoy!
This website would have awarded this title months ago if only I had listened to my minion Kevin Savino-Riker (@RITmusic2k). After he had listened to my interview for the Too Much Awesome podcast and heard that Data was on my list, he sent me a couple articles he had written for the site. Being the busy person that I am, I bookmarked them and told him I’d read them later. The later only came recently. And when I read them, I howled! What are these articles?
Some of the language is NSFW. I highly recommend you read them. Kevin makes a very compelling argument in favour of Data. And if you disagree, then take up the battle and contribute to the debate. Recently, they’ve added to this debate with the following article:
Of course, I had to contribute especially as I played many of the songs mentioned when Geeky Pleasures was on the radio. The site is pretty much in its infancy. You can find other debates here. As kid2 stated as he was looking over my shoulder while I was typing up this arctile, “OMG mom! This is pro! I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to have a website like this!”
So check it out, live long and prosper and may the force be with you.
