Today, Carl Sagan would have been 77 years of age. At times, I find it difficult to grasp that he has been gone from the world, in physical form, for 15 years now. He may physically be gone, but his memory and his words continue to touch and inspire many.
I could say a lot about the role Carl Sagan played in my life, but I’d probably be repeating what many others have been saying all day, on various sites around the web. Needless to say, I think there are many people who are thankful for all that Carl Sagan did for science and humanity.
A lot of people have been posting Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot today. It is many people’s favourite thing to come out of his brain. I posted it last year. This year, I’m going to post another video that has been making the rounds this last week: Gift Of Apollo.
This video is part of a larger series, simply called Sagan Series. Click the clip below to view all 8 videos created thus far in this series.
Happy Birthday, Carl Sagan!

I just watched the “Gift of Apollo” clip you posted. Or I should say, I *tried* to watch the clip you posted because about halfway through, I couldn’t help but cry. Tears flooded my vision. I was born a few years after Apollo, and I feel an inescapable sense of loss. I feel like I’ve missed something important. Thank goodness, we have these videos. Thank goodness, we had Carl Sagan.
Happy birthday, Carl. We miss you, and boy, do we need you now more than ever.
