I’d have to say that one of the things that I find to be extremely sensual is graphic art. When Quirk Books (@quirkbooks) asked if I wanted a copy of Gig Posters Volume 2 for review, how could I say no? After receiving my copy earlier this week, I almost wish I had said no. Why? Because I cannot think of any way to properly review this book, beyond simply stating that this book is mind-blowingly gorgeous, filled with vibrant, luscious, succulent artwork.

One of the first things I noticed when I opened the book, aside from so much beautiful art, I didn’t know where to begin, was the smell. The smell is one of many reasons you will not see me switching to an eReader. Graphic art is not just about the visual input. Depending on the medium, graphic art is also about touch and smell. When I view art, I don’t want to just look at it, but I want to touch and smell it, feeling the lines and smelling the ink and paper. For me, it enhances the experience. If you’re like me and need more than just a visual experience, the raised cover satisfies the tactile and the smell of the print and heavy weight paper will satisfy your need for smell.

As for the art itself, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS!. Every time I flip a page or open the book to some random spot, my brain drools. There are many distinctive art styles displayed, the layout and design of each poster is unique, but they are all equality gorgeous and sensual.

If the art alone is not enough for you, on the back of each ready-to-frame, 11-by-14-inch perforated poster, is a little bit about the artist, including education, location, information about their influences, preferred medium/methods, when and why they started to design gig posters, remarks and more. Not only do you get to find out more about each artist, there are up to six additional samples of their work.

I wish I had two copies of this book, one to keep intact and one to take apart in order to frame each poster. Every time I look through this book, I’m amazed that Clay Hayes was able to narrow down tens of thousands of posters on gigposters.com to around 700 posters, 101 of those ready-to-frame.

See below for a preview of some of the posters in this book:

Gig Posters Volume 2 is a great book for any art lover. And at $40.00 USD, it is an inexpensive way to decorate and add art to any room.
