GottaCon is an annual broad-spectrum gaming convention held the first weekend of February at Pearkes Arena in Victoria, British Columbia.
As already mentioned, I was the Special Events Coordinator for GottaCon 2012. Part of my role as Special Events Coordinator was to moderate the discussion panels.
The forth discussion panel was the DM Roundtable It was held on February 5, 2012. Seated on the panel were Alex Flagg (Crafty Games), Douglas Lloyd (Blackbyrne Publishing), Steve Saunders-comics (Media Gauntlet profile) and Eric Seaton-tabletop RPGs (Crosstime Games of BC).
The panel outline read: Storytelling and the ability to create other worlds in the minds of your players is one of the traits that makes a good DM. If you are a starting DM looking for some tips, or if your players have backed you into a corner and you are looking for a creative way to save your story, this panel is for you.
Some of the topics we explored during this panel include: Mistakes you think DMs make; Improv in the game; If your players have ever backed you into a corner, how did you fix that?; Deviation from the story: pros and cons; Tips that would improve the role of a DM. After the panel was over, there was a brief Q&A.
Also, Steve and I swear.
